Why does Annabeth say they have to kill Medusa? Why can't they just run away?

Annabeth says they have to kill Medusa because Medusa tries to turn Annabeth into stone and crush her into pieces of dust. That is why they can't run away. That they can't run away because Medusa will keep turning people into stone.

Annabeth,Percy,and Grover have to kill Medusa because they would be turned into stone and other peoples.Percy has to kill her because she can't forgive her for turning people into stone that didn't even do anything.

Annadeth, Percy amd Grover need to kill medusa because if they run away she will still turn other people to stone and because if they don't she will still be alive

I think the children had to kill Medusa because more and more people would be turned to stone. Would you let one person harm other people?
